Fall in Arizona means more time on the patio, backyard dinners, and finally enjoying the yard without melting. It’s also a good time to give your pool fence a quick check.
Even when swimming slows down, your pool fence still has an important job to do. Here are five simple things to look at this fall.
1. Make Sure the Gate Closes and Latches
Open your pool gate and let it go. Does it close and latch on its own? Try it from a few different opening positions.
If it drags, sticks, or stops short of the latch, have it checked. A gate that needs an extra push is easy to leave unsecured.
2. Clear the Gate’s Path
Leaves, dirt, and small rocks can collect around the gate. Outdoor rugs and other patio items can also get in the way.
Keep the opening clear so the gate can move freely, and never prop it open—even while carrying things into the backyard.
3. Check for Damage
Walk along the entire fence. For mesh fencing, look for tears, loose connections, or damaged posts. For iron fencing, check for corrosion, bent sections, and loose hardware.
Pay attention to anything that has changed since summer. Small problems are easier to address before they become bigger repairs.
4. Watch Where You Put Patio Furniture
Rearranging the backyard for cooler weather? Keep chairs, tables, storage boxes, and other climbable items away from the pool fence.
The same goes for seasonal decorations. Think about whether a child could use something nearby to climb over the barrier.
5. Keep Pool Safety Part of Every Gathering
When friends and family visit, remind everyone to keep the pool gate closed. If children are around the water, designate an adult to actively supervise them. A fence adds protection, but supervision still matters.
